Why two companies for residential services?

A statement from Cooper City:

“On January 9, 2024, the City Commission approved a franchise agreement with Coastal Waste & Recycling of Florida, Inc. for commercial and residential solid waste and recycling hauling services. Coastal Waste & Recycling of Florida, Inc.'s submitted bid for residential collection is approximately 21% less than the existing collector's residential cost. With this approval, Coastal Waste & Recycling of Florida, Inc. will begin servicing solid waste and recycling on April 1, 2024.

Similarly, during the January 9 City Commission Regular Meeting, a franchise agreement with Eastern Waste Systems, Inc. for bulk waste/trash and bulk yard waste collection services was approved. Eastern Waste System, Inc. is familiar with Cooper City's needs due to servicing bulk waste as a subcontractor under the current contract with Waste Management of Florida, Inc. With this approval, Eastern Waste System, Inc. will begin servicing bulk waste/trash and bulk yard waste collection services, under its own agreement, on April 1, 2024.”

Are my service days changing?

You will continue to have the same service days, with garbage being collected twice a week and recycling being collected once a week.

What is the monthly rate for residential collection and disposal?

During the March 12, 2024 regular meeting, the City Commission approved a $3 monthly reduction per single-family home. Effective April 1, 2024, the monthly rate for single-family homes is $33.05, which drops from the previous rate of $36.05 per month. Furthermore, the City Commission voted to freeze the rate through September 30, 2026. See more information on the reduced monthly rate for all residential dwellings.

Why have my pickup times changed?

Your collection time may not be consistent every day. Collection times will depend on traffic, the volume of materials collected, and possible changes in routing. You may miss your pick-up if your container is not out by 7:00 a.m. on your assigned pick-up day. The container cannot be emptied if it is not outside by the given time and placed correctly at the edge of the street with the handle facing your house.

Can I put additional garbage next to my cart?

You are not allowed to put out extra trash. All trash must be in the can with the lid closed.
